The safety of PTT

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]HISTORY

Push to Talk (PTT) Two Way Radio communication is tried and tested, still used by many.

See PTT Radios in shopping centres, hotels, at events, being used by traffic controllers, emergency services and the like.

Originally PTT devices never had distracting, battery and data draining APPs like on mobile phones.

They could not distracted users attending to calls from anyone at anytime. Downside to mobile later.

Years after PTT come about, two way devices started having lone worker and SOS Emergency buttons (SOS).

PTT was limited by range or by expensive infrastructure to extend it, and SOS back then only made a siren/alarm, at best the other users could identify the radio the SOS alert was coming from.

Some PTT Radios had a Radio ID that other devices could see if they had a light up screen.

PTT and SOS has proven to be incredibly important too many. The 3G and Long Term Evolution (LTE) changed the coverage area of PTT as PTToc (over cellular) come about.

CORE SAFETY BENEFITS

Press the (PTT button): – You have ‘instant communication’, no delay in getting the message through, if users are have the right attitude towards a safety culture and are disciplined with communicating, you can better manage communication flow.

Press the (SOS button): – You have everyone alerted in your group, an alert with the SOS Emergency location shows up live on the PC Screen, Laptop or Mobile as well, the audio is now recorded onto one of our 52 Servers, saved for 3 year! Click Here to see a list of our servers!

The barriers to individuals, groups and companies continuing to use PTT Two Way Radio System was mainly cost, lack of area coverage and the handheld radios were bulky and only lasted 8 hours or so.

Mobile Radios took up room in vehicles and drained car batteries if left on overnight. OG was before 1G, 2G and was the start of PTT Radio being able to talk through Two Way Radio into phone systems.

The obvious solution back in the day to address that cost and lack of area coverage was analogue mobile phones, that evolved into digital. That took it to a next level as the frequencies ‘like phone lines’ could be chopped up into smaller bits, and then with a timing sequence, the data jumbled up to provide security.

A core benefit of cellular systems was the wide area network element, as we know, they are global networks. 2G in Australia is turned off, and we have 3G, 4G, 4GX and now 5G.

The main downside of mobile phones was you need to unlock them, find the contact or dial the user and hope for them to answer, there was no belt clip or speaker microphone on them, they did’t hold charge that long.

Workers become more isolated which presented as a safety risk a solution was sort one of which is (PTToC) and already happening yet expensive Push to Talk over Satellite (PTToS).[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]For more on how it works Click Here – How It Works.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
